poems and prose - experiencing dementia
My Head
I’m in a muddle
Or maybe it’s a puddle.
I’ve got long brown hair
And big banana feet
That will lead me astray.
I’m the woman in the moon.
I ride the skies at night
And vanish in the day.
I’ve got a lot of nothing
That I keep in my head
Since my brain’s gone away.
Jessie McBride
Until I Remember
I’ve got blocks in my memory
Blank places.
I’ve got one now.
I don’t know where I’ve come from
I don’t know where I am.
It’s a lonely place.
Will you sit with me
In this blank space?
Will you hold my hand?
Flora Forrester
Away With The Fairies
I’ve lost touch.
I’m away with the fairies.
I’m lost in the sprinklings
Of the good who-evers.
Am I living on love?
